Alvin Fernandes entered into rest on August 28, 2017 in Manteca, CA. He was born in Taunton, Massachusetts on October 4, 1925 to Antonio and Maria Fernandes, from Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal. In Heaven, he joins his parents and beloved son, Robert Fernandes.

Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dory Fernandes, children; Becky Fernandes Meredith (Tom) and Linda Fernandes McClary (Steven), grandchildren; Corbett Schnatmeyer, Samuel Meredith, Shelby McClary and Sydney McClary.

Alvin grew up in Oakland, CA, graduating from Castlemont High School and attending the University of California, Berkeley. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 at 17 years old. After serving in Europe and North Africa, Alvin was honorably discharged in 1945, receiving the Navy’s Commendation for Outstanding Heroism against enemy forces in Southern France for his work aboard the Mediterranean Minesweeping Unit.

Alvin spent most of his life in the SF Bay Area with a career in Commercial and Industrial Sales at Simplex and Timpac Corp. He also worked at the US Naval Air Station, Alameda as an Aircraft Metalsmith, and P.G & E. as a Lineman. He was a member of the Fremont and Modesto Chapters of SIRS. He moved to Manteca upon his retirement to be closer to his family, where he enjoyed playing golf, travel and friends.

His passion was his family, to whom he provided unconditional love, wise counsel and support. Alvin never looked back. Vaya con Dios.
