Frank R. Mendes Jr.

Frank Rocha Mendes Jr., 94, died June 7, 2017 in Manteca, CA. He was born in Ripon, CA on June 2, 1923, to Frank R. Mendes & Etelvina B. Mendes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Hayes Mendes & daughter, Suzanne Mendes Garcia, brothers, Alvin R. Mendes & John R. Mendes. He is survived by Sharon Mendes (Kathy), Sally Mendes, Raymond (Chris) Mendes, Sharmaine Mendes & Sylvia Mendes. He leaves 9 grandchildren: David (Lis) Garcia, Ericka (Greg) Meadows, Sheri (Balvir) Taggar, Lisa (Larry) Raasch, Mandi Mendes, Kerri Garcia, Amanda Gonzalez, Marisa (Berto) Gomez & Melissa (Tom) Cunning. He also leaves 13 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth & Matthew Taggar, Brielle Payne, Lindsey & Trevor Raasch, Sabrina & Mia Rangel, Drake Meadows, Kate Garcia, Abigail & Thomas Cunning, Jocelyn & Dylan Gomez & great great, grandson,Carter Deiz. He is also survived by his sister, Laura (Arnold) Rothlin and many nieces & nephews. Frank was a Navy veteran & served in WWII as a radioman on the USS Shangri-La. He lived in Lathrop & Manteca and graduated from Manteca Union High School. Frank supported his family by farming for many years as well as being a member of the Operating Engineers working as a heavy equipment operator for 40 + years. He was a member of SIRS & Manteca Historical Society. He will be missed by his family and friends, he never knew a stranger. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary’s Dining Hall & Manteca Historical Society.

P.L. Fry and Son is honored to serve the Mendes family. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017 1pm to 3pm followed by a rosary/vigil at 3pm held at P. L. Fry and Son Chapel 290 North Union Rd., Manteca, Ca. A mass will be held on Monday June 12, 2017 at 11am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church 505 East North St. Manteca, Ca.
