My deep condolences to the Urestes family. Rich and I went to high school together, graduated together and he was a deputy sheriff and I with San Leandro PD. He was a true 'Brother in Blue' and most of all a true friend. I have fond memories of high school we shared and Rich will always live in my memories. May God bless you and keep you well my brother.....

You realize how much you truly miss someone when something happens, good or bad, and the person you want to tell is the person who isn't there! If you get a chance to look down on us, I hope you know that We're missing you. Your TASK FORCE brothers and members of B.B.A.R.F. will miss you!

To watch Richard work undercover was to watch an academy award worthy performance. He was the best and holds legendary status in the ACNTF and ACSO.Undercover work is the most dangerous and the most respected aspect of police work, the fact that you are no longer here will cause all that new you pain. Rest In Peace my friend. Norman Madrid

Thank you Norm, you’re responds and kind words means so much to us. And you’re right, Rich was one of a kind that you don’t find any more. His hard work and passion shows the type of person he was , and you Norm described the type of work a rich placed himself in

Rich was a true professional that made a difference in the many lives he touched during his career with the ACSO. Although his first impression on most was that he was a quiet and reserved person, but once you got to know Rich his exceptional sense of humor and outgoing personality was apparent. I have many funny stories about Rich, and I will cherish those memories. Rich will always be remembered as perhaps the best undercover investigator ever assigned to the County Task Force. Rich set many records and won many awards while performing the most dangerous assignment in undercover operations...he was the "Prince".

Like all my cousins we possess many talents, but one thing that sticks out about cousin Richard are the stories I heard about his mean drumming skills! My parents and siblings will forever remember you.

I was in the Sheriff's Academy with Richard and we worked together many times. He was always a calm presence and fun to work with. I am very sorry that I am 2,200 miles away at the moment and will not return to California for at least eight more days. Please give the family my condolences. I will always remember him.

Dear Cousin Richard, You always treated our family with respect & kindness. Even though your body is now an empty vessel, you are truly free. Be one with those which we can no longer see in physical form... you live on in our thoughts and in our hearts, always.

Be free!

Rich, God speed my friend. We crossed paths quite a bit as deputies. You will be missed; a true gentleman that took care of his work, and respected friends.

My prayers go out to the family and friends of this man. I met him only once at Noah's 6th birthday. His daughter Brianne has stood over me during my illness which is a testament to her father. May the family find peace with his passing to our Lord.

As a young man growing up in Decoto, Richard was a good friend of mine. We grew up together and I have many fond memories of us going through various rights of passage. As we got older we went our seperate ways but the good memories have always lingered. There was a group of us who hung out together on a regular basis. I am saddened to hear of his passing. Due to some medical issues I will be unable to attend his services but I will be there in spirit. Goodbye my friend.
