Zabia Bouzeneris, 96 of Modesto, fell asleep in the Lord on June 17, 2017. Zabia is preceded in death by her husband Andrew Bouzeneris and their youngest daughter Holly Ann. She is also preceded by her sisters Peggy Kallas and Katherine Poulos, and her brothers Paul and George Mangelos.

Zabia Bouzeneris, née Mangelos, affectionately known by family and friends as “Zee,” was born on April 3, 1921 in Hanna, Wyoming. The daughter of Greek immigrants, Zee was a member of the Greek American Progressive Association during her teen years in Wyoming. Like her coal miner father, Zee worked at the Tipple Mill in the Reliance Coal Mine in the early 1940s. In 1944, Zee moved with her parents to Ripon, California, where she fell in love with Andrew Bouzeneris, a Central Valley farmer whom she married in 1945. Zee and Andrew had three children: Elaine, Mike, and Holly Ann. Zee was a devoted congregant of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Modesto, where she belonged to the women’s Philoptochos Society and Cretan women’s organization Sisterhood Eleftheria.

Always willing to listen sensitively, Zee will be remembered for her sweet smile, compassion, and sense of humor. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Zee is survived by her children Elaine Rosso (Robert) and Mike Bouzeneris (Joanne); grand daughters Andrea Rosso Efthymiou (Steven), Anastacia Bouzeneris, and Adrianna Bouzeneris (fiancé Jeffrey Jones); and great granddaughter Reena Efthymiou.

Trisagion services will be held at 7pm on Friday, June 23 at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road in Manteca. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 24 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 313 Tokay Avenue in Modesto. She will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Parkview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Zabia’s memory be made in her name to the Katherine Velthoen Memorial Scholarship fund, c/o Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 313 Tokay Avenue, Modesto, CA 95350.
