Agnes Dedini, 100, joined her husband of 60 years, Walter, and her sons Peter and Raymond, in Heaven on August 31, 2021. Agnes was the youngest of four daughters, born to Swiss immigrants Adolph and Theresa Mathys. Agnes grew up in Manteca on her family dairy and married Walter in 1939, at the age of 17. She and Walter were farmers, first with their own dairy. Then they grew watermelons and later chardonnay grapes. She lived through the difficult eras of the Great Depression and World War II.
Agnes was a homemaker who spent her days raising her six children. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escalon and was a member of a garden club. In her spare time, she loved to tend to her garden, growing beautiful roses and tomatoes. She also loved to bake; persimmon cookies were her specialty. She could often be seen wearing a large hat, tending to the vineyards with Walt. Agnes was an avid reader and had an incredible memory and a sharp mind. Agnes enjoyed visits with her grandchildren, and later, great-grandchildren. She loved to share her life experiences with her caregivers and enjoyed teaching them to cook.
She is survived by her son Lee (Kathy) Dedini of Pacifica, Don (Annette) Dedini of Modesto, David (Nancy) Dedini of Ripon and daughter, Betty (Joe) Taylor of Auberry, California. She also leaves behind her 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Marie, Lena and Emma.
