Caroline’s Ultimate Adventure

Caroline Gibson was born on April 12, 1953 in Tucson, Arizona.  When she was only two weeks old she and her family journeyed by car to Alaska, a trip that perhaps served as an inspiration for travel in her adult life.  Becoming fluent in Spanish at a young age, she visited many destinations in Central and South America; from the ruins of Machu Picchu to the island of Ometepe where she swam with the sharks in Lake Nicaragua.  She traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States, usually with her children in tow.  From baseball games in Baltimore to wine tasting on the Rhone, she was always ready for a new adventure and fearless in making new friends and embracing local culture. In the last year of her life the adventure continued. Despite facing a dire diagnosis and exhausting treatment, she bravely managed trips to Hawaii with her children and to France in order to spend time with her grandchildren.

Caroline possessed an array of talents.  In addition to joining a Ukulele band and starring in a number of community theater productions, she also wrote and performed her own comedic one-woman show. Her flair for creating characters, doing accents, and telling stories in a hilarious way placed Caroline at the energetic nexus of any gathering of family or friends. This aptitude and a love for sports earned her a position announcing softball games for a local league over many years. Delighting others with her quick wit was clearly a joy.

Beyond performing, Caroline loved a good book, her dog Scout (and the dogs that came before her…RIP Napper, Coltrane, and Thunder), the ocean, warm weather, cool chardonnay, the color orange, crossword puzzles, movies that bring happy tears, and above all else her children.

Caroline is survived by her husband Perry and her three children.  Her son Daniel Browne and his wife Bleuenn and their three children, Isaac, Balthazar, and Calisto, her daughter Emily Oestreicher and her husband Jared, and her son Alex Oestreicher and his fiancé Tessa.

A bon voyage celebration for her final adventure is scheduled for a later date.
