Devenie Marie Gonsalves

On Monday, February 26, 2018, Devenie Marie Gonsalves – mother, daughter and sister – passed away unexpectedly at the age of 41. Devenie’s memory will live on through her mother, Cindy Gonsalves; her six children, Nathaniel, Damien, Elijah, Nicholas, Domenic and Julissa; her three siblings, Vickie, Brandon and Jaylene; as well as the countless others who were privileged enough to know her.

Devenie was born on September 11, 1976 in Martinez, California. She lived throughout the Bay Area and Central Valley, later settling in Lathrop, California, with her children. Since 2010, Devenie worked at Victor Community Support Services (VCSS) where she was a Family Partner Supervisor. 

Devenie struggled with addiction for several years as a young adult before becoming a client of the VCSS Wraparound Program in 2005. There, she pulled her life back together piece by piece, eventually reuniting her family. Due to her dedication and aptitude for the work, Devenie was hired to be a Parent Partner at VCSS, and after a few years, was promoted to a supervisor, becoming a trainer for other parent partners statewide. Devenie was extremely proud of her sobriety, which lasted over a decade. Her recovery was incredibly important to her, and she worked hard to use her experience to help other families like hers. 

Devenie was a woman of boundless compassion. Her life was cut short, but those who were touched by her understand that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her bright smile, contagious laugh and sunny disposition brought joy to those around her. 

Words are inadequate in expressing the sorrow felt by the loss of our beloved Devenie. May there be comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten.

Services for Devenie will be held on Saturday, March 17th at 2:00 pm at P.L Fry & Son Funeral Home. Following the ceremony, a celebration of her life will be held at Devenie's home.
