Tribute

Herman Wayne Meissner, a cherished educator, devoted family man, and beloved member of the Lathrop community, passed away on February 22, 2024, in Modesto, California. Born on April 18, 1934, in Oklahoma to the late Herman Meissner and Cardella (Pittser) Meissner. Predeceased by his parents, his first wife Denzel, stepson Philip Bingham, and brothers Louis and Ray, Herman's legacy lives on through his children Lena Rayburn and Larry Meissner, stepdaughter Debbie Sala, his loving wife Nettie, brother-in-law Danny Hoggatt, four granddaughters, Janelle Morrow, Montana Rayburn, Lindsey Scott, Ashlyn Bell, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Wayne began his career in education in Wellston, Oklahoma, eventually moving to Manteca in 1960 and Lathrop in 1963. It was here that he fulfilled his calling at Franklin High School in Stockton, California, where he shared his passion for woodshop with students for over three decades. Beyond the classroom, Herman was an active member of the Church of Christ in Ripon and participated enthusiastically in the Lapidary and Woodturners clubs in both San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties. He enjoyed hours in his shop working on various projects and he enjoyed remodeling kitchens and adding rooms to houses. He was seldom without a project for someone else. His hobbies included rock hunting, woodworking, playing pool, and searching for seashells, but his greatest joy was found in the company of his grandchildren and family.

Known for his generosity, Herman was the kind of person who would offer the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His gentle nature and willingness to help others, regardless of the circumstances which was a true testament of his kindness.
