On November 10, 2022, God decided he was bored and brought home some intellectual entertainment. Helen Pearl ‘Red’ Johnson was born on August 19, 1929 in Detroit, Illinois to Stella Mae and Russell Wilkins.
She married Vernon Wendell ‘Buddy’ Johnson on March 10, 1952.
Helen was a Preschool Teacher, Sunday School Teacher and Homemaker. There wasn’t a child on earth that she didn’t love. She was grandma or mom to everyone she met. She touched many lives in 93 years. She attended Locust Avenue Church of Christ and then the last 30 plus years at First Christian Church. One of her great joys was giving her Pastors a hard time- ask Pastor Bell.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Bud Johnson, grandmother and grandfather Lennie and Levi Howell, mother Stella Mae and stepfather George Cater, father Russell Wilkins, brothers George Lee, Harold, Bill and Bob Carter and step grandson Michael Huffman.
She is survived by daughters Jocelyn Jane and her husband Randy Huffman, Susan and her husband Glenn Olson, grandson Kevin R. Johnson, great grandsons Kevin W.R., Anakin D. Johnson and Nolan Sok; step granddaughters Dayna (Jose) Gonzales, Amy (Jason) Oberst, Brother Herschel P. and his wife Jennie Carter, her special nieces Rhonda, Stacy and nephew Ron. A
