Ingeborg Filippoff

Ingeborg Filippoff Brazil (known by all affectionately as "Oma") passed away peacefully in the hospital surrounded by family on April 24 in Fresno, California at the age of 89.

Inge is survived by her four children; Michael Filippoff, Steven Filippoff (wife Judy), Christine Lilly (husband Dave), Len Filippoff (wife Tina), eight grandchildren (Eric, Sarah, Mia, Adam, Max, Makena, Logan and Aubrie) and two great-grandchildren (Jayden and Austin).

She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Brazil.

Inge was born on October 7, 1932 in Czechoslovakia to Max and Irma Kohler. Growing up with her brother Michael and sister Irene in war-torn Europe was tough, the family was forced to relocate from Czechoslovakia to Germany. Eventually, she (and her sister) married U.S. soldiers and left Europe to start families in America. Inge and her husband welcomed four children into their home, raising them while moving from military base to military base was adventurous and challenging.

In 1975, Inge lost the father of her children and was forced to become the sole bread-winner; left to raise and care for her children. This was not easy but was one of the many examples where Inge stepped up and did whatever was necessary for her family.

Inge remarried later in life and moved to the Central Valley. Inge and Carl “farmed” the 1.25 acres around their house and annually produced a bounty of fruits and vegetables for family and friends. They were generous to all and delighted in being with their loved ones.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (there will be a viewing at 10:00 a.m.) on Thursday, May 5 at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home in Manteca, CA followed immediately by a burial service at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Carl. The family will host a celebration of life reception at the Hotel Mission De Oro at 13070 CA-33, Santa Nella, CA starting at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Inge's life.
