Irene Georgia Sephos

Irene Georgia Sephos entered into rest on August 11, 2018 at the age of 81. Irene was born on October 5, 1936 in Stockton to Mary and George Gikas. 

   Irene was preceded in death by her older brother, Korean War veteran, Mike Gikas. She is survived by her first husband Steve Sephos, their five children – Andrew (Toni) Sephos, George (Sandy) Sephos, John (Amanda) Sephos, Maria (Bob) Sephos-Cortale, and Tom (Donna) Sephos – and her nephew and niece Kent Gikas and Carol Reagor, and her godson John Mangelos. Irene was blessed with 13 grandchildren, Laurin Sephos, Zoe Sephos, Ouronia Sephos, Andrew Sephos, Yanni Sephos, Michael Sephos, Matthew Sephos, Anna Sephos, Vincenzo Cortale, Marcello Cortale, Nikko Sephos, Steven Sephos, and Layla Sephos.

   Irene was lifelong resident of Manteca and grew up on her family’s farm on Prescott Road where she learned to grow table grapes. After graduating from Manteca High in 1954, she studied nursing. Irene was baptized at St. Basil’s Greek Orthodox Church in Stockton and remained an active member throughout her life. There, she was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope – a philanthropic organization which promotes education and family values.

   Solving puzzles was one of Irene’s many hobbies – sudoku, crossword, and jigsaw were her favorite. Irene also enjoyed gardening and had a passion for cooking. She was an outstanding cook and everyone loved to sit around her kitchen table. Irene was fascinated by birds. She kept many as pets and befriended the wild birds that visited her beautiful yard. Irene was also extremely talented at crochet. Friends and family were always excited to receive one of her doilies or blankets as a gift.

   Irene will be remembered as a loving mother and yiayia (grandmother) to her family. Her presence will be greatly missed by all. 

   P.L. Fry & Son is honored to be serving the Sephos family.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. with a Trisagion at 6:00 p.m.. at P.L. Fry & Son Chapel, 290 N. Union Rd., Manteca.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at  St. Basil’s Greek Orthodox Church, 920 March Lane, Stockton.  A private burial will be held at Park View Cemetery, 3661 French Camp Road, Manteca.
