Born on September 5, 1945 in Seattle, Washington, James “Jim” Robert Barbour, 73, entered into rest on April 30, 2019 in Manteca, Ca. He is preceded in death by his  brother Robert Barbour.

Mr. Barbour is survived by his loving family: wife of 49 years, Betty Barbour, children; James W. Barbour Sr. (Shera), Deborah R. Fundenberger (Jacob), Caryn M. Barbour, Scot F. Barbour (Erin) and Melody J. McNaughton (Danny), grandchildren; Megan, Jimmy Jr., Patrick, JC, Jessica, Samantha, Sienna, Jonathan, Brandon, Matthew, Sagan, Skyla, Stella, Alexandria, Sydney and Daniel and 3 great-grandchildren Dani, Kennadi and Lexi, siblings; Patricia Kelly, Maureen Padgett, Jerry Barbour, Cheryl Barbour, Sandy Barbour and Debby Barbour.

For the past six years, Jim was a resident of Manteca and previously of Castro Valley. After high school, He enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served for two years during the Vietnam War. Jim started his career in Law Enforcement in 1967 at the Hayward Police Department and retiring as Captain at the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office in 2000. Jim was a member of the Sons of American Revolution, Knights of Columbus-Oakland, St. Andrew’s Society of San Francisco, the VFW, the American Legion and Mayflower Society. Jim loved the Scottish traditions and  was a member of the Black Watch Pipe Band where he played the bagpipes. He enjoyed searching his ancestors through genealogy. Jim was a wonderful cook, documenting each one of his recipes in a personal cookbook to pass on to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan; loving all football, hockey and especially the New York Yankee’s. Jim loved his dogs; the late Bonnie, Luna and Bella, they were his companions always at his side. Above all family was most important to Jim, he was the rock and the leader of his family; he had the perfect combination of a playful joking spirit and a loving strong heart. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

P.L .Fry & Son is honored to be serving the Barbour family. A prayer service will be held on Sunday, May, 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Chapel 290 N. Union Rd. Manteca, Ca.
