James Dennis Carroll, 90, entered into rest on May 29, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 30, 1926 in Alhambra, CA., to the late Noonan and Sadie Carroll.

James leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years Marilyn Carroll of Manteca, his sons, Tom Carroll (Maureen) of Benicia; David Carroll (Kriston) of San Carlos and Paul Carroll (Audrey) of San Carlos, and his sister, Corinne Carroll of Daly City.

He was blessed with nine grandchildren, Aileen, Brian, Stephen, Alyssa, Olivia, John, Patrick, Juliann and Liam.

Jim was a Manteca resident for over 50 years. He served his country proudly through the United States Navy during WWII. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a member of American Legion and the Elks.

Jim led a varied and active life.  He grew up in Southern California before volunteering for the Navy.  He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  After college, he started a long career in Agribusiness, becoming a rancher in Northern California, then a livestock market news reporter, and finally an agricultural banker.  He was active in his community, as a 4-H leader, supporting his children during their years at Manteca High School as an athletics and band booster. At St. Anthony’s parish, Jim was active as a parish finance committee member.  Marilyn and Jim enjoyed years of golf, square dancing, and RV trips together with friends and family. More recently Jim enjoyed Tai Chi and his many friends at the Manteca Senior Center.

Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, amazing father and wonderful grandfather. He lived life to the fullest, and never stopped setting a good example for his children and grandchildren to live life without complaint despite the adversities he faced.  He is already deeply missed.

P.L. Fry is honored to serve the Carroll family. A rosary will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home, 290 North Union Road, Manteca, CA.
