Tribute

Born in Ogden, UT, Larry passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2018, surrounded by loving family. He was 78 years old. He is preceded in death by his parents Ret. Col.  Robert D. and Verna Evans. He is survived by his wife Ann of 56 years, sons Mark Robert Evans and Andrew Charles Evans, Sister Maggie Reynard of Half Moon Bay.  He was blessed with five grandchildren, Robert Evans, (Merissa), Michael Evans, Marc Evans, Victoria Evans and Tawna Evans, in addition two great grandchildren, Fallon and Aynsleigh Evans.

Larry was a 62 year resident of Manteca, moving here during high school when his Dad was stationed at Sharpe Army Depot.  Prior to this he lived all over the United States and four years in Germany. He graduated with the class of 1958 at Manteca High School.  He attended and graduated from the Washington D.C. School of drafting.  Upon returning to California he worked for a civil engineer for several years then entered real estate, held an agent license and worked as an Escrow Officer for several title companies for over ten years. He was a member of California National Guard, 49th Aviation Company where he was an air traffic controller and link trainer for six years. His lifelong work was in outside sales in the pool industry, serving as a manufacturer’s representative for over eighteen companies traveling the US. 

Larry was involved in many organizations in the community. He was a 53 year member of Tyrian Lodge #439, Free and Accepted Masons, Ben Ali Shrine of Sacramento, San Joaquin Shrine Club, Escalon Shrine Club where he served as president several times.  Pentalpha Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Past Patron and officer, also was Rainbow Dad for Manteca Rainbow Assembly, served as a board member on Stockton DeMolay for several years. Former member of Manteca Kiwanis Club also served as President, Founding member of Manteca Caps, served on the board, Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years of troop #425 and was Waukeen District Chairman, Manteca and Tracy, active at St. Paul’s UMC for many years.

His family remembers him as a strong, quiet man, loving unconditionally, enjoying family gatherings, holidays, and traveling with his wife Ann.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018, 11:00 am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 910 East North Street, Manteca. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul’s Memorial Fund, Shiners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817 or Manteca Historical Society, P.O. Box 907, Manteca CA 95336.
