Leroy's journey began in October 1, 1919 in Tunica, Mississippi. Due to the poverty of his parents, Leroy and his two brothers were adopted by a family member early on in his life. He recalled that time as being difficult and moving around a lot. When Leroy turned 17, he decided that he wanted a better life for himself, so he hitchhiked to New York with a friend.

After arriving in New York, homeless and penniless. Leroy did odds and ends jobs to survive. During his stay, he traveled back home to visit his family and that's where he met Magnolia Davis.

Soon after returning to New York in 1940, he was drafted in WWll, serving 5 years in the South Pacific. During his time overseas, he maintained contact with Magnolia through letters. After returning home, Leroy found himself homeless again and decided to go back home to see his parents.

While there, he visited Magnolia and took her on a date. He decided that day that he wanted to marry her, so they wed the following day in her parent’s backyard. They returned to New York together and welcomed a son, Cornell Miller the following year.

Leroy had many jobs during his years in New York. He was a seamstress, taxi cab driver, subway station worker, and administrator. He loved helping people and took pride in doing the right thing. After he retired, he often helped his elderly neighbors with jobs around their homes.

In 1978, Cornell married Betty Garner and to that union came two children, Shuntel in 1980 and Stephanie in 1983. Leroy and Magnolia moved to Manteca, CA to be closer to their grandchildren and family in 1985. Upon their arrival they became members of United Lutheran Church where they both remained faithful members until the time of their deaths.

Leroy will be remembered for his love of beer, sense of humor, love of music and storytelling. He leaves to cherish many beautiful memories, two granddaughters, Shuntel and Stephanie Miller, daughter-in-laws Betty Griffin ( Martin) and Carrie Merfeld, his god-daughter Stacy in New York, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Leroy will now join his son, Cornell and wife, Magnolia of 64 years in heaven
