https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1659164945199097Magdalena “Mag” Rios Herrera, 84, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2022, in Manteca, CA surrounded by her family.  Mag was born on December 20, 1937, in Guam to Enrique & Francisca Rios and was one of 13 children.  While living on Guam, Mag worked as a cook for 15 years for the Government of Guam, first at the Governor’s House and later at the Department of Corrections.  Upon her retirement she spent the last 23 years enjoying her new life in California with her family. In her free time Mag enjoyed spending time with her family, attending family parties, going on trips to the casino with her Bay Area Women’s Social Club, cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and taking care of her many orchids.  Mag was a natural at gardening.  She had a green thumb and could grow anything she got her hands on.  She was always giving away the plants from her garden to visiting family members.  If there was a party at her house people always left with a plant or two.  She also loved cooking – so much so that when she cooked for a small party, she always made so much food like she was feeding a village.  Her favorite things to make were latiya, fruit salad and chicken kelaguen.  Mag was also a talented seamstress, who made everything from prom dresses & Halloween costumes to the traditional Chamorro style mestizas.  She also enjoyed crocheting tablecloths, baby pillows and making crochet glass bottle covers in the shape of poodles. 

Mag is survived by her husband of 59 years Hernane; her children Gene, Gilbert, Gina (Robert), Gerald, Glenda and granddaughter, Kameron; as well as her sisters Ana, Maria, Jesusa and brothers; Jose and Ricky; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022, from 1:00pm to 5:30pm, with a Vigil/ Prayer service   immediately following at 5:30 p.m. at P.L.
