Maria Ceu Garcia, 93, entered peacefully into rest surrounded by her family on August 3, 2022 in Manteca, CA. She was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal, April 8, 1929. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jose Garcia, parents Jacinto and Rosa Vargas, her daughter Maria Odete Garcia, and her brother Jacinto Vargas.
Maria is survived by her loving family; daughter Maria Pita (John) of Manteca, son Jose Garcia (Tina) of Stockton, and daughter Odete Gomes (John) of Manteca. She was blessed with seven grandchildren; Johnny Pita, Charlene Sandlin, James Garcia, Angela Garcia, Michael Garcia, Shellsea Garcia, Melissa Gomes and many great grandchildren. Maria is survived also by her sister Maria Lurdes Vargas of Faial, Azores, Portugal and sister Maria Utilia Pinheiro of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
Maria was a Manteca resident for 17 years. She migrated from Portugal with her husband Jose in I966 to raise their young family. They made their home in Oakland, CA and the surrounding Bay Area. Maria held her Catholic faith close to her heart and made it the core of her family. Maria enjoyed watching her family grow and being a part of her grandchildren’s lives. She loved to give and never expected anything in return. She constantly worried about her family’s wellbeing and prayed for them daily. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like cooking, baking and visiting the local casinos. She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed.
P.L. Fry is honored to serve the Garcia family. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM with a Rosary and Vigil immediately following at 5:00PM all held at P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home, 290 North Union Road, Manteca, CA. Mass will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 525 East North Street, Manteca, CA. She will be laid to rest at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, 17871 S. Carrolton Road, Escalon, CA.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in her name to The American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Dementia/Alzheimer’s Society of America.
