After a quick and aggressive battle with cancer Raymond Avila passed away on May 19, 2022 in Manteca, California. He was born on July 24, 1962. In Heaven Raymond joins his parents, Ernestina and Mateo Avila and all of his older brothers: Johnny, Sammy, Matt and Rito. He leaves behind his three children Angelica (Jonathan) Gomes of Modesto, Alex Avila of Manteca and Leticia Avila of Lathrop. He was blessed with 4 grandchildren Mateo, Jase, Lyllianna and Ivalinna. He is survived by his sisters Teresa, Esther, Tina, Jenny, Josie and Maggie.

For 30 years Raymond was a fixture at the Softball & Baseball fields in the community. Umpiring Little league, High School to Collegiate level and more. He truly had a passion for his work and enjoyed mentoring the younger generation of Umpiring following his path.

Ray had a way to make others feel appreciated, welcomed, loved, and feel at home. With a “How you doing?” and an extended hand introducing you to his kids  or grandchildren that were always by his side over the years. He loved his family. He was a proud son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather “Papa Ray.” He had a passion in life that leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and laughter to everyone around him at any time. His smile and laughter were contagious.

His dedication to his family and loved ones will be remembered and missed dearly and cherished by all that met and knew Ray. We cannot forget his pup “Diamond” who was with Ray everywhere he went. His sidekick for his daily walks. He was a funny and kind man who enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and was just a child at heart himself.

Ray will be missed but live on in our hearts and memories.
