Robert “Bob” Canto was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts April 30, 1938 and passed away after a brief illness on September 6, 2021. Bob served in the US Navy as Aviation Machinist’s Mate in the Helicopter Utility Squadron from 1955-1959 on the USS Midway.

He is preceded in death by his parents Victor and Aldina Canto, and his brother Leonard Canto. He leaves behind his wife of almost 44 years Linda Canto, daughter Sonya Canto,  brother Gilbert Canto, sister-in-law Charlotte Canto, nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends.

Bob met his future wife on a blind date in 1976 and they married a year later.  He was a devoted husband and father that enjoyed spending quality time with his wife and daughter.  He was the Governor for the Loyal Order of the Moose in 1991-1992 for Hayward Castro Valley Moose Lodge 1491. He retired from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and spent his retirement doing the things he loved with those he loved.

Bob was a person that could find enjoyment doing just about anything from boating to tinkering in the garage to golf to traveling with his love Linda.  He knew how to throw a good party and loved to dance the night away. Bob lived life as we all should and made the most of each day. “Take it one day at a time” he would say.   He was known for his quick wit and ability to charm anyone. Being around him was always a good time.

Bob was “one of a kind” and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
