Ruth Elaine Lewis (Knepp), 82, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2018, in Manteca.

Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Herman (Harold) Lewis and one daughter, Sharon Peck.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Ruth Knepp, and four brothers: Raymond Knepp, John Knepp, Kenneth Knepp, and Ronald Knepp.  She is survived by 4 children:  Yvonne Carrillo, Gary Lewis and his wife Kim, Steve Lewis, and Timothy Lewis.  She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren: Catherine, Marisa, Matt, Scott, Sean, Robbie, Alexandria, Alyssa, Kevin, Stephanie, and Nathan; and 4 great grandchildren: Maycee, Scarlett, Connor, and Emersyn. 

She was born on January 14, 1936, in French Camp, CA, and grew up in Escalon.  Mrs. Lewis was a resident of Manteca for 50 years.  She taught kindergarten for over 30 years, mostly at French Camp School.  She was a pioneer of things like the kindergarten report card and kindergarten open house.  She often went to extraordinary lengths to do her very best for her students, not just in teaching, but helping provide for the clothing and nutritional needs of the many underprivileged students she taught.

Ruth and her husband had a great love of travel and camping.  She was a longtime member and past president of the Manteca Travelers trailer club. She was a member of The Birthday Club and Red Hat Club.  She was often seen around town in the company of her best friend, Ada Hulbert.  Most of all, Ruth was a loving and kind-hearted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She always delighted in spending time with her family and fiercely loved them all.

Mrs. Lewis will be laid to rest at Burwood Cemetery in a private ceremony.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at P.L .Fry & Son Funeral Home 290 N. Union Rd. Manteca, Ca. An online guest book is available for condolences to the family at www.plfryandson.com
