Tribute

Sandra Lee Arndt Atherton danced into Heaven on 5-20-2023 after suffering from a rare form of Arthritis and chronic pain. Sandy was born to Don and Maron (Billie) Arndt in Great Falls Montana on 2/6/1958. She was the third daughter; her younger brother completed the family. Her parents moved the Family to Stockton Ca. in 1963. Sandy was a sweet girl who always wanted to play with her siblings. She attended Village Oaks Elementary school then went on to attend Lincoln Jr.

Sandy was one of the most popular girls in school, winning over whomever she met with her radiant smile and funny and quick-witted personality. She was a cheerleader and Home Coming Queen at Lincoln High School in 1976. Sandy Married Mike Atherton in 1981.  The happiest day of Sandys life was when their son, John Michael Atherton was born in 1992. She was a wonderful and devoted mother to John.

Sandy had a Juice Plus business where she educated and distributed the product to her many clients.  Sandy was a Season ticket holder at the Atherton Auditorium at Delta College and looked forward to attending the many different performances throughout the years. Sandy was affiliated with the Stockton Opera Guild, Lambda Theta Phi, Women’s Bible Study Fellowship and was a Co-facilitator of a support group for 11 years at First Baptist Church, supporting parents who had suffered the loss of a Child.

The last several years of Sandys life was lived on her Almond Ranch in Manteca. She was thrilled to have her son and his fiancée Olivia Marie live in a home located on the property, which allowed them to spend every day together, and she cherished their family time. Sandy was an avid animal lover through and through. She had a soft spot for strays and welcomed several beloved dogs and cats into their family throughout her life. She loved and enjoyed a sunny day on her back patio with her family and friends watching the hummingbirds drink from the unique and beautiful collection of feeders she had accumulated over the years. Sandy enjoyed Bravo and Theater shows with her Son and Olivia. She especially enjoyed the many overnight visits and long phone conversations from her best friend Cindy Welborn.

Sandy defined Love, Compassion and Kindness. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Billy Arndt, her brother Russell Arndt, and her daughter Samantha Atherton. Sandy is survived by her son, John Atherton, Olivia Marie, Mike Atherton, her Sisters, Diane Beck (Peter), Dorothy Swicord (Ron), step sons Michael and Wes, many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews’ and her lifelong friend Cindy Welborn.
